You shouldn't be the slightest bit surprised, being someone who studies the way technology effects our lives. Though I agree that the immediate, ridiculous click-baity theories are not helpful in the least, getting this worked up about people having an opinion on the situation nurtures a climate that tends to support cancel culture. Intolerance of other people's questions or positions, versus truly supporting free speech is a fragile balance to find.
